Getting to know Matt Young

Matt Young_edited.jpg

I wasn’t born into racing but nevertheless I became a breeder and owner trainer, whilst being employed as the Operations Manager for the Hobart Racecourse.

This was when the $27 million grandstand upgrade and track redevelopment was underway and included the construction of a tri-code facility that could hold Thoroughbred, Harness & Greyhound racing all at the    one venue.

In 2008 I stepped away from training thoroughbreds after holding a Metro trainers license in Victoria and being based at the Caulfield racecourse sharing boxes with Anthony Cummings.

In 2021 I re-entered the industry with a re-ignited passion for purchasing and racing tried horses and ultimately back into the breeding discipline.

My professional work history spans Australia, the Middle East & Indonesia, developing a commercial acumen as a proactive, and innovative Executive Manager with a strong background in critical facility management and operational support. It has been my responsibility for the reliability of commercial infrastructure across Telstra, NBN and Regis Aged Care.

Recently in December 2024 I was appointed to the Melbourne Racing Club - Mornington Advisory Group (MAG) . The advisory group is a sub-committee of the Melbourne Racing Club.
The purpose of the MAG is to provide an ambassadorial role concerning members, racing, sponsors, trainers and the broader local community of the Mornington Racing Club. The advisory body, makes recommendations to the Melbourne Racing Club’s Executive Committee.
